Conference

Sends the call into a conference room. The journey ends there, and the caller must dial the room's access code to enter.

How it works

The module hands the call off to the room you designated, then the plan ends: it has no output, nothing you place after it would ever be played. Whatever must be heard before entering the room, an announcement for example, must be placed before the module.

The caller enters as an ordinary participant, never as administrator. The administrator role is reserved for the extension declared in the room's Administrator extension field, when it dials the conference's internal extension from within the installation. A caller arriving through the dial plan can therefore never get it.

The room's access code is requested from them. This code is mandatory when the room is created and has 3 to 5 digits: a caller who doesn't know it cannot enter. Plan to give it to them, for example in the announcement played just before.

If the room is set with Wait for the administrator to start the conference to Yes, participants wait on music until the administrator arrives, and the conference only starts at that point.

If no room is chosen, the call is hung up as soon as it reaches the module, without a word. This is the same rule as everywhere else in the plan.

What to fill in

Step by step

1. First create the room if it doesn't exist: Modules, Conferences, Add a conference. Fill in the Name, the Internal extension between 100 and 99999, the Access code, the Administrator extension, and the Wait for the administrator to start the conference choice.
2. Go back to the plan's Visual editor and place the Conference module.
3. Connect the previous node to its input.
4. Open it with a double click and choose the room from the Conference list. Close with Save.
5. Don't expect any output on this module: it has none, and that's normal.
6. If the caller needs to know the access code, place a Play a file module before it that gives it to them.
7. Click Save in the editor's toolbar, then Apply changes.
8. Make a real call, dial the access code, and check your presence in Modules, Conferences, Connected users column.

If it doesn't work

The call is hung up as soon as it reaches the module. No room is chosen, or the room has since been deleted. The module then shows Not configured under its title: reopen it and choose the room.

The caller hears a request for a code and doesn't know what to dial. The room's access code is required on entry. Communicate it to your contacts, or have it stated by an announcement placed before the module.

Participants stay on hold music and the conference doesn't start. The room is set with Wait for the administrator to start the conference to Yes. It only opens once the extension declared as Administrator extension arrives. Fix this setting in Modules, Conferences, or have the administrator join.

The rest of the plan is never played. The module has no output, it's an end point. Anything that must be heard, including an announcement, must be placed before it.

The Conference list is empty in the module. No room has been created in your installation. Open Modules, Conferences, then Add a conference.
