Take a call to your mobile

Move an ongoing conversation from the softphone to your mobile, then bring it back to your extension, without cutting off your contact.

How it works

Everything happens on the server. It's the other party's leg that's moved, not yours: the bridge is torn down, and your softphone leg drops on its own. So there's nothing for you to hang up, and your contact experiences no interruption.

A marker is placed on this moved leg. It serves two purposes: turning on the "call on your mobile" state in the softphone, and finding the conversation again when it's time to bring it back.

The softphone polls the server every five seconds, but only when there's something to track: an ongoing call, or a call already moved. At rest, it asks nothing.

Your contact's identity is read from the leg before the move, so you find them again under their name and number rather than a technical value.

Steps

  1. First set your mobile number: in the portal, open the user's record, General section, Mobile number field, then Save. Without this number, the button doesn't appear.
  2. During a conversation, find the mobile-shaped button on the call card. Its tooltip reads Move this call to your mobile.
  3. Click it. The call card is replaced with Call on your mobile, followed by "The conversation continues elsewhere. Resume it here whenever you want."
  4. Continue the conversation on your mobile.
  5. To bring it back, click Resume on this card.
  6. Check: the card disappears once the server has accepted the resume.

If it doesn't work

The mobile button doesn't appear during the conversation. Two possible causes. No Mobile number is set on your extension, or the call is on hold. In both cases, the button is simply hidden.

I click and nothing happens. The server can't find a call in conversation for your extension. A call that's still ringing doesn't get moved: you need to be in conversation, meaning both legs up, for the move to make sense.

The Resume button brings nothing back. The marker placed on the other party's leg no longer exists: the conversation has ended. The softphone then re-reads the state from the server and the card closes.

The "Call on your mobile" card stays shown even though I've hung up. The state is re-read every five seconds. The card closes on the next check.

The contact shows up with no name or number. Their identity couldn't be read before the move, for instance because they presented no number. The move still happens, only the display is incomplete.
