Voicemail

Drops the caller onto a voicemail box: announcement, beep, then recording. This is an end point, the call terminates on this module.

After the beepthe message is recorded, then the call ends

How it works

The module answers the call, plays an announcement, sounds a beep, then records what the caller says. The message is then sent to the e-mail address set on the box.

The announcement follows a cascade, in this order: the away message if one is currently active on the box, otherwise the box's own announcement, otherwise the platform's generic announcement. The Skip welcome announcements checkbox skips this whole cascade and goes straight to the beep.

This module has no output: nothing plays after it, and the call ends there. The rule about unconnected outputs therefore does not apply here. What you need to watch for is something else: if the box set on the module cannot be found, the call is hung up without a message being taken and without a word. This happens when no box is chosen in the module, and when the chosen box has since been deleted.

Box:the voicemail box that will receive the message, chosen from the listno box is resolved and the call is hung up without a message being taken
Skip welcome announcementscheck it to go straight to the beepthe announcement cascade plays before the beep

Steps

  1. Create the box in Modules, Voicemail boxes, with its name and the e-mail address that will receive messages.
  2. Place the Voicemail module at the end of the path and connect the previous node to its input.
  3. Open it and set the mailbox in Box:.
  4. If the caller has just heard an announcement, for example a Play a file placed right before, check Skip welcome announcements.
  5. Do not connect anything after it: the module is an end point and has no output.
  6. Place before it, not after, anything that still needs to happen: a Notification, for example, which would never be reached if you placed it behind.
  7. Click Apply changes.
  8. Call the number, leave a message, then check that it arrives correctly in the declared e-mail box.

If it doesn't work

The call is hung up without any announcement being played. No box is set in Box:, or the one that was set no longer exists. Reopen the module: as long as no box is chosen, it shows "Not configured" in the editor.

The caller hears two announcements back to back. The plan makes something speak to the caller right before. Check Skip welcome announcements in the module.

The box exists, but no new message is ever recorded. Its user has put their mailbox on hold. The box stays in place, its announcements and old messages too, but nothing new is taken and the call ends.

No message arrives by e-mail. Check the address set on the box, in Modules, Voicemail boxes, and check the spam folder of the recipient mailbox.

The caller hears the platform's generic announcement instead of mine. The box has no announcement of its own recorded, and no away message is active. The cascade then falls back to the platform's announcement.
