Create a multi-switch

Create a list of named choices where only one is active, and change state with one click: the dial plan follows the branch of the current choice.

How it works

An ordinary switch has only two states, active or inactive. A multi-switch carries as many as you declare, each with its own label: "Open", "Closed", "Public holiday", "On-call team". Only one is active at a time, and it's the one that directs calls.

In the visual editor, the Multi-Switch module offers one output per choice, once the multi-switch is selected in its Selected switch: setting. You connect each output to the sequence that matches it. On a call, the platform reads the active choice and takes that choice's output.

If that output isn't connected to anything, the call stops there. The same thing happens when no choice has ever been set: no output matches.

Labels are unique within a multi-switch: entering the same one twice keeps only one. The last line of entry always stays empty, and it's what's used to add the next choice.

A choice wired into a plan can't be deleted. The deletion is refused and the message names the plan involved.

Steps

1. Open Modules, Switches, then the Multi-switch tab.
2. Click Add a multi-switch.
3. Enter the Name, the one you'll use to recognize it in the plan editor.
4. Under Available choices (one choice per line, no duplicates), write the first label. An empty line adds itself below as you fill them in.
5. Click Save. You return to the list.
6. Open the plan's visual editor, place the Multi-Switch module, and select your multi-switch in Selected switch:.
7. Close the module's window: it now shows one output per choice. Connect them all, then Save.
8. Go back to Switches, Multi-switch tab, and choose the active state from the dropdown list in the State column.
9. Check: call the number that enters this plan and verify you land on the expected branch. Change the state and call again.

If it doesn't work

The dropdown list in the State column is empty. The multi-switch has no choices. Open it and add at least two labels.

The call stops dead at the Multi-Switch module. The active choice's output isn't connected to anything, or no choice has been set yet in the State column. Connect every output, including the rare cases.

The module shows no output in the editor. No multi-switch is selected in Selected switch:, or the one selected has no choices. Outputs are calculated from the list of choices.

I can't delete a choice. It's wired into a dial plan. The message names that plan: remove the link in the editor, save, then delete the choice.

The state change isn't taken into account. Changing a multi-switch requires write access to switches. Without it, the page stays viewable, the add and delete buttons don't appear, and the selected choice isn't saved.
