Switching carriers without cutting off calls

The fear that blocks every phone system change is switchover day. It's a legitimate fear, and it can be addressed: a migration is prepared so that nothing stops.

Changing phone systems is frightening for one reason: if the phone goes silent for an afternoon, the business stops. That's why a migration isn't improvised, and why a well-run migration goes unnoticed.

Preparing before the switch

Everything is built in advance, alongside your current setup: extensions, call flows, announcements. We test with a few trial numbers before touching the real ones. The switchover day should be nothing more than flipping a switch, not building something.

Porting, at the right time

Your numbers belong to you and can be ported. The switchover of a ported number has a date fixed in advance with the carrier that holds it. We schedule it for the least disruptive moment, and check the file beforehand, to avoid a last-minute rejection.

Keeping a way back

Until the switchover is confirmed to be working, the old setup stays in place. A forward catches any calls while everything is being checked. Continuity comes before speed.

  • The new switchboard built and tested before the switchover
  • A porting date chosen and verified
  • A backup forward during the transition
  • The old line cut only once everything is confirmed

A successful migration is a boring migration: calls keep coming in, customers notice nothing, and on Monday you realize you've already switched carriers.

We run these migrations all year round, and success is measured by nobody noticing a thing.
